Construction Manager

Ignite your success with the Civilex Ignite 2020 Graduate Program.

Civilex has evolved into a dynamic group of companies that provides a wide range of opportunities for growth and advancement. Together we offer a complete range of civil construction solutions operating across Victoria and branching out to interstate markets from our head office in Spotswood. The group includes Conset, offering full structure concrete services, Grampians Excavations and property development company Incore Developments.

By joining Civilex, you’ll work closely with other companies in the group, gaining experience across the business, broadening your skills, knowledge and opportunities.

David Caserta is one of those people.

Dave arrived at Civilex in 2014 after completing three years as a Project Engineer with a Tier One contractor. He holds a Civil Engineering degree from Monash and was accepted into another graduate program where he worked on a number of projects as a Site Engineer. He came to Civilex and commenced as a Senior Project Engineer and was soon promoted to Project Manager working on large and complex infrastructure projects.

Today Dave is transitioning from Civilex Project Manager into a new role as Construction Manager for our Grampians Excavations entity who will oversee the projects, people and plant from regional Victoria.

Project Life
Civilex entrusts their Project Managers with far greater responsibilities within their roles to execute and deliver on projects in a manner that they want – at the highest quality and on time – removing micromanagement and intense approval processes. Our Project Managers are exposed to far more of the complexities in and around the project. “The backing and trust given to Project Managers at Civilex makes us own our projects and removes much of the frustrations that can come when seeking decision and approval. It allows people with the knowledge of the project’s detail to make the decisions.”

Diversity is Key
Civilex has a vast array of clients from private, government and the larger Tier One’s to the Tier Three’s. Projects vary in size and complexity which means no two are ever the same. “It’s great – the key to being a strong Project Manager is having experience in many disciplines of civil construction and Civilex provides its engineers with diverse experience and opportunities. You can go from a large council hard and soft landscaping project with obscure architectural concrete paths, mounts and planting to constructing athletics tracks with MCG specified footy fields to a road upgrade project with VicRoads to Melbourne Airport runway pavements, hangars, to building the largest concrete foundations in the southern hemisphere for Wind Farms.”

Stepping Up
The company is growing and expanding and there’s now a real opportunity for our engineers to step up and take on different opportunities and challenges. Conset and Grampians Excavations merged with Civilex in 2018, and this exciting alliance means we are even better-equipped to complete the high-level civil construction work employees like Dave has spent his whole career striving for.

Dave has stepped up and has taken on leading the Stawell-based Grampians Excavations entity and works. The company will deliver earthworks and civil construction services to regional Victoria and Melbourne with a large fleet of excavation and earthmoving equipment.

“It’s an amazing opportunity for me at such a young age to be entrusted with looking after Civilex’s interests in Grampians Excavations. My mandate is to grow the Grampians business regionally and within metropolitan Melbourne, by expanding our fleet of plant, client list and implementing the processes and systems into the business to take on lump sum contract works such as road upgrade works. For me, this opportunity is a true demonstration of how the Civilex management team develop their staff to grow alongside the business. It means our engineers are handed diverse experiences and opportunities right from the start of their careers.”
