Civilex wins HMAS Cerberus Naval Training Base Upgrade – Early Works
Civilex is pleased to announce they have been successful in their tender to deliver the Early Works package for the HMAS Cerberus Upgrade at Cribb Point. Civilex will be engaged under subcontract to LendLease in the next few days. Having just completed the East Sale RAAF Base Pilot Training Facility, this win further builds on Civilex’s growing Defence Force experience and capability.
A major component of Civilex’s scope includes the temporary construction of roads and car parks which will accommodate the Main Works Package requirements. In addition to the temporary works, permanent works include the Intake Switching Station associated with the EMOS Workshop. Additional associated permanent works include drainage, earthworks, building pads, flexible and rigid pavement construction and landscaping.
Innovation played a major part in Civilex’s detailed submission and was demonstrated through alternative pavement design involving the use of high-strength geotextile. Civilex has extensive experience with this product following the completion of the Mt Gellibrand Windfarm Project. In addition to the value for money associated with the use of this product, the client was impressed with Civilex’s expertise in constructing high-strength geotextile pavements.
HMAS Cerberus is located approximately 75km south of Melbourne and is the principal training establishment for the Royal Australian Navy, supporting and providing training to nearly 1,000 cadets. The redevelopment will upgrade and refurbish the existing infrastructure and facilities on the Base, meeting current training needs and supporting future requirements. The Base will remain operational throughout the redevelopment works.
