Civilex’s Food Drive for Foodbank
On Tuesday 19 March Civilex set itself a corporate social responsibility goal: to purchase enough food products in one week to make 50 hampers for Foodbank to distribute to hungry families.
And we’re delighted to say that not only did we achieve this…we bettered it (ok, just!) by packing a total of 51 hampers – equating to 650kg of food products!

How We Supported Foodbank
We invited our employees, their families, friends and colleagues to go shopping and deliver their purchased food products to our Head Office by Monday 25 March. Some department managers went shopping with their teams, while other employees took their families shopping, or brought in food products throughout the week. Whatever way it was done, our kitchen bench was stacked high with non-perishable food products!
Foodbank gave us a shopping list which represented the contents of one hamper to feed a family of 4 for one week. It included:
- 2 x large tinned tuna
- 2 x baked beans 420g
- 2 x canned spaghetti 420g
- 1 x rice 1kg
- 2 x pasta 1kg
- 2 x pasta sauce
- 1 x stir fry sauce
- 2 x cereal 1kg
- 1 x UHT milk 1L
- 1 x vegemite/peanut butter/other spread
One week later Team Civilex packed the hampers at our Spotswood Yard, loaded the hampers onto a ute, and then delivered 51 hampers to Foodbank’s Yarraville premises.
Foodbank Food Donor Coordinator Daniel Parsons-Jones thanked Civilex and its employees saying, “Your donation weighed in at 650kg, which equates to nearly 1,200 meals for vulnerable Victorians. And because you have already packed them into hampers, we can begin to distribute to the community immediately. Please pass on our thanks to your entire team, and we would like to thank you in particular for organising the donation.”
Special thanks to Civilex staff – Nick Murdoch, Brendan Swaine, Patrick Kemp, Michael Roberts, Cara Thompson, Wendy Fradd, Gaby Di Vincenzo, Michael Spiteri and Alana White – for volunteering their time to pack the hampers.
Notable big purchase mentions go out to our Toll project team (6 hampers), Western Roads Upgrade project team (6 hampers), Estimating department (4 hampers), Civilex Spotswood Yard (6 hampers), Civilex Safety team (5 hampers) and Civilex business (12 hampers).
A big thank you to all our employees for getting behind this important project and for helping make a difference to Victorian families in need with Foodbank.
