Geelong-Bacchus Marsh Road – Stage 1 Works Commence

The Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan was greeted by Director, Safe System Road Infrastructure Program Regional Roads Victoria Bryan Sherritt and TAC Lead Director Road Safety Samantha Cockfield at the Civilex site to mark the start of works on the first stage of a $49.5 million safety upgrade on Geelong-Bacchus Marsh Road between Lara and Balliang East.

Civilex project engineers were given an opportunity to talk about the project with the Minister and walk through the plans in the site office. The first stage of works between Lara and Balliang East is about to commence – which includes a range of safety improvements such as new overtaking lanes, a roundabout at Elcho Road, intersection upgrades, flexible safety barriers at high-risk locations and wide centrelines to prevent head-on crashes.

L-R: Site Engineer Billy Dando, TAC Samantha Cockfield, Regional Roads Victoria Bryan Sherritt, Snr Project Engineer Elias Contopoulos, Minister Luke Donnellan, Site Engineer William Stansen, Project Manager Matthew Willis, and General Supervisor Greg Davies.

Minister Donnellan is an advocate for road safety and site discussions turned from project to community. In particular the work performed for the community at RTSSV (Road Trauma Support Services Victoria). Civilex is honoured to partner and support RTSSV who play an integral role within our community offering a plethora of services including counselling services to people who have been impacted by road trauma.

The Victorian Government says this stretch of road has been identified as one of the highest risk in the state. There have been 13 serious crashes in the five-year period from December 2011 to December 2016. The safety upgrades are part of the Victorian Government’s $1.4 billion Towards Zero Action Plan, which aims to ensure no one is killed or seriously injured on our roads.

Civilex is proud to be part of improving road infrastructure for our community.

The Towards Zero Plan is funded through the TAC and delivered by VicRoads.
