Team Effort at Surf Coast Trek 2018

With a map, mobile, drink bottle, lunch and snacks packed, our five intrepid Civilex employees delved into one of Victoria’s most beautiful and remote parts to raise funds for worthy causes. We caught up with Civilex Office Administrator Victoria Eresjo post-40km 8-hour walk and asked what her highlights were participating in the Surf Coast Trek this year.

It’s really hard to pinpoint the best part because there were many highlights. Firstly, giving back. Helping raise funds for two worthy foundations – Kids Plus and Give Where You Live was absolutely satisfying. Hopefully, our participation will encourage other companies and their employees to do the same next year for an amazing cause that assists kids in having the same opportunities and ability to live a normal life. We are fortunate at Civilex to have a social calendar with a diverse range of social activities to get involved in.

Another highlight was the walk itself. Being out in the remote Victorian landscape was liberating. We are fortunate to have access to such a beautiful coastal region like this and it’s something all Victorians should be proud of protecting. The more we look after it and nurture our backyard the better it will be for future generations. Our kids will be able to walk through the same track as we did without having to stumble on litter and plastic bottles.

But really what I treasured the most was completing the trek with my work colleagues. Although we work in different departments and on diverse projects plus commencing work at Civilex at different times, the team camaraderie was felt and formed and I really enjoyed getting to know my Surf Coast Trek team better. There’s a lot to talk about over 40km!

Together we motivated, encouraged and stuck it out together for the entire eight hours. Aaron “The Secret Assassin” kept the pace together with “Guru” Scott, who did not let go of his walking stick for one moment. Matt Attard did such an amazing effort considering he was recovering from shin surgery and Ibrahim, a hiking rookie, also smashed the walk using his secret method: eating three bags of potato chips!

Now I can’t wait for the next Civilex trek scheduled at the end of November across Mount Feathertop.
