Joe Bartolo

Managing Director

With over 20 years experience in the industry and hundreds of construction projects under his belt, Joe is the Managing Director of Civilex and has worked on hundreds of construction projects across Victoria with drive and passion. From humble beginnings, Joe now oversees over 400 diverse and highly skilled staff. The positive culture at Civilex is well known, and Joe plans to keep it that way.

Ray Dando

Construction Director

Ray’s extensive engineering, project and commercial management experience makes him the best person to take responsibility for business development and management of project managers and engineers, site foremen and leading hands. Ray, with Civilex since 2010, is known for his inspiring leadership and delivering beyond customer expectations.

Andrew Fairbairn

Estimating Director

With solid industry knowledge and an astute approach to estimating, Andrew has built a strong reputation within civil construction. Heading up Civilex’s Estimating Department since 2010, Andrew is eager to add to his list of over 200 successful projects.

Matthew Gurney

Operations Manager

With more than 12 years’ experience in the construction industry, Matt is a pragmatic, talented and astute professional. Matt’s responsibilities comprise the entire gamut of our business, primarily leading and supporting our Construction Managers, Project Managers and Engineers to deliver diverse projects efficiently and cost-effectively. He is responsible for the consistent quality of all major construction contracts in both the public and private sectors.

Jen Robertson

Construction Manager

Jen’s broad project experience ranges from buildings to roads, mining to marine and includes extensive expertise in rail. Accountable for the delivery of major construction contracts, Jen is a key driver within our Construction team. Her role encompasses supervising and supporting the engineering team, and her natural ability to mentor our Project Managers and Engineers, and unite the team is one of her many attributes. Jen also performs contract management, quality assurance, project monitoring, cost reviewing, managing works, and ensuring health and safety project compliance.

Rodric Carabott

Construction Manager

Rod commenced his construction journey as a Student Engineer gaining experience from both private and public sectors. Hard work and expertise have seen him rise in the ranks from a successful Senior Project Manager, to – more recently – Construction Manager. Rod has the experience and capability to run projects autonomously and mentor Project Managers. He is adept at managing key procurement negotiations, resolution of commercial issues, financial reviews and reporting, and liaising with key stakeholders. Rod thrives on diversity and a challenge, so he’s a great fit to our team!

Nicholas Murdoch

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Nicholas has been a CFO for more than 18 years. He provides high level commercial insight and economic strategy to our Board of Directors, leads the Finance Team and develops policies and procedures. Nick’s key role of preparing financial statements, managing the budgeting process, and measuring and controlling business risks is paramount to our success. Nick also supports our Project Managers and Administrators with legislative assistance relating to the financial management of projects.

Steve McInerney

Area Manager

With a career spanning more than 30 years, Steve has built an enviable reputation for completing complex projects ahead of time. His focus on delivering quality projects on time, under budget and safely has afforded Steve an influential name in the industry. Steve is ultimately responsible for supervising site staff and organising project resourcing and programming.

Ben Virtue

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

With a development career spanning over 15 years in the construction industry, Ben is an extremely experienced and accomplished Business Development Manager. He carries an enthusiasm and passionate commitment to networking within the industry, consistently sourcing valuable and diverse opportunities for our business. Ben is adept at negotiating and his inherent ability in reading market direction ensures mutually beneficial success for our business and our clients.

Olivia Bartolo

HUMAN RESOURCES AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS MANAGER

Olivia’s focus on delivering a seamless employment experience for our employees and exceptional work outcomes has her held in high esteem. Her extensive experience in employee and industrial relations, change management, succession planning, and the development and delivery of HR processes and policy development positions her as a go-to cultural leader within our business.

Sandra Costanzo

Commercial Manager

With a Masters in Construction Law and having been admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria Sandra’s commercial knowledge is unsurpassable. Her experience as a Construction Lawyer, coupled with exceptional negotiation skills in the implementation of contracts in the construction and civil engineering industry with Tier One contractors is second to none. She is a cornerstone to our ongoing business success.

Kris Bogdanovski

ASSET AND LOGISTICS MANAGER

With previous hands-on roles as well as supervisory and management positions, Kris brings an enormous amount of experience to the business. Formal qualifications as a mechanic, a passion for plant and machinery and management skills afford Kris a real advantage in the industry. Kris’ solid knowledge of our extensive fleet of plant and equipment and his technical understanding, coupled with solid planning, organisational, and negotiation skills ensure we provide the best-fit for our projects.

Aaron McArthur

SURVEY MANAGER

With 10-plus years in the industry and qualifications in Spatial Information and Safety Awareness Aaron very capably leads our Survey team. His previous experience has allowed Aaron to assemble an extensive knowledge of civil construction works – comprising quality control, supervision of plans and survey models – and has gained as hands-on knowledge in implementing and maintaining Survey practices used across all projects. As Survey Manager Aaron supports his team with proven expertise in servicing survey equipment, and provides technical support to operators.

Matthew Bell

PROCUREMENT MANAGER

Prior to joining the Civilex family Matt previously spearheaded a large number of successful civil projects and had a senior executive role within one of Australia’s largest companies. With qualifications in business, training and safety, coupled with a street-smart mindset in negotiation, communication and management is what makes Matt an expert in sourcing and managing required supplies across our projects. Matt builds and maintains long-lasting relationships with a variety of stakeholders and manages our subcontractor agreements.

Lisa Cole

Marketing & Communications Manager

Lisa has many years’ experience in communications and leads her team with a passion for creative thinking and marketing flair. Lisa’s strategic approach ensures communications with internal and external stakeholders are both consistent, effective and relevant. Delivered across a variety of digital and non-digital platforms, the collaborative nature of the marketing function means Lisa works closely with various departments and industry partners. She has a keen interest in keeping abreast of the exciting and constant changes taking place in marketing.

George Markelis

HSE Manager

George is responsible for developing, auditing and reviewing our safe work practices making sure we meet – and exceed – industry standards and legislative requirements. With a vast range of skills including construction management, workplace safety, contractor management and project planning, George works closely across the department teams to assist with implementing appropriate safety management systems on each project.

Michael Spiteri

HSQ MANAGER

Michael’s enviable skills and experience over 12-plus years’ working within the industry in Australia and internationally render him a valuable asset. Forming our Safety Team, Michael works alongside George in maintaining our business’ AS 4801, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications and is responsible for site inspections and quality auditing.

Michael liaises with regulatory authorities, reports monthly to our Executive Team and organises and maintains training requirements and records across the company. He also manages incident investigations, workplace safety reviews and statistical analysis as well as internal training and inductions.
